Prospect Spotlight: Martell Turner (2020)
Coaches at all level appreciate a hard-nosed point guard with a love for the game. Martell Turner is that player. The point guard from Roseville High School is a player that should start commanding some attention from more coaches at the next level.
Martell Turner is a sophomore who is already an experienced high school player. He started for Roseville as a freshman and looks to have a big sophomore season. He can get the ball to the rim using his excellent ball handling skills and finding lanes to the hoop. Turner can also play off teammates and does a good job keeping them involved by creating space for them. He’s working on making his jumper a strength in his game.
Martell Turner’s favorite moment in high school basketball so far was playing against Lakeshore in districts as a freshman. Even as a young player, he’s not afraid of a challenge. “I’m looking forward to playing every team but mainly GPN because last season they beat us twice,” said Turner. This summer he was in the gym and the weight room every day. He worked to get faster, stronger, and smarter while expanding his game.
Martell Turner is a young man with goals. “My individual goal is to get better everyday and just do better than last season and be one of the last two teams playing in March,” he said. Turner has an amazing appreciation and concern for other people. “My long term goal on the court would be to make it far enough to help my people. Off the court I would just say to be able to show the kids under me that you have to work for what you want and don’t quit. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do anything,” said Turner.
A few few colleges have been in touch with his coach, but Martell Turner looks forward to playing his way onto more coaches radar. “Martell is a tough guard who plays the game the right way,” said Roseville head coach Hassan Nizam. He can bring a love for basketball to any team, and he can be counted on to always play with heart.
