Prospect Spotlight: Keyon Thomas (2019)
Coming off a strong summer performance, Bonner Springs point guard Keyon Thomas recently showed off his skill at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in Kansas City, showing casing an all-around game.
A x’x point guard, Thomas is a strong left handed player who can score at all three levels, as well as run an offense. He brings passion and energy to the court and plays hard nosed defense as well.
After growing four inches and adding 13 points between his freshman and sophomore seasons, Thomas says his game grew as well as he gained confidence and was name all-state after leading the Kaw Valley League in scoring, assists and steals..
“I grew mentally and physically … We were a young team, but we played as a unit and they pushed me every moment I had,” he said.
After a strong summer playing with the KC Spurs, Thomas is entering the upcoming season with high expectations.
“My aau career has been off to a great start this summer,” he said. “My team and I have been winning against top names teams for a while now. We’ve been making statements to a lot of people. I expect to win the rest of our tournaments and get at least three offers.”
Thomas says the biggest influence on his basketball career to date has been his grandfather, who has pushed him since he was four-years old.
“Until this day, he has me doing all kinds of work,” Thomas said. “I also seen and heard how great of a player he was, so my goal is to be better and to carry on at the next level.”
Thomas says his favorite player to watch is former Kentucky standout and current Kings’ point guard De’Aaron Fox.
“He is a lefty, he is also very fast,” Thomas said. “He is a very crafty player who I feel similar towards. I feel that my finishing ability is similar, I can shoot better, and I have very tight handles like him as well.”
Thomas has drawn interest from several colleges, including Nebraska, Kansas State, Lehigh, Western Illinois, and several others.
“I plan on taking visits throughout this year to get an idea of where I’ll be attending,” he says.
