Prospect Spotlight: Jacob Tomsich (2020)
I once had a retired college basketball coach tell me: “I see videos all day long of kids dribbling around cones and showing off moves. But they can’t shoot. The moves are great, but if you can’t make a shot, what good does it do?” Needless to say, shooters are a must have in basketball.
Jacob Tomsich, or J-Swish as he’s become known, is a guard from Hubert Henry Dow High in Midland. The sophomore is developing the reputation as a shooter. He’s a high percentage shooter not just from deep, but from midrange as well. He is not a one dimensional player though. Tomsich is a solid ball handler with good court vision. He’s a sound distributor as well. He is working hard to develop as a finisher.
This is spring and summer Jacob Tomisch played travel basketball for the Tri-City Heat and worked with private basketball coaches to improve his game. He played almost everyday and worked on his strength and Skill set. Next season, he looks forward to playing against Saginaw High and Arthur Hill because of the great competition and skill level. His best moment in high school basketball so far was defeating Dow’s team rival, Midland High School.
Jacob Tomsich knows what’s needed from him for his team to be successful. “As a team player, I’ll bring leadersgip and experience to the court. I will look for match up advantages and try to get all of my teammates involved in the game. My individual success will be measured in wins/losses, but I will be an impact player both offensively and defensively this year and plan to have a breakout year,” said Tomsich.
Jacob Tomsich wants to help his high school team get deep into the playoffs. He wants to play basketball in college, while obtaining a degree. He’s a shooter and can obviously provide a college program with that aspect of the game. He can also provide leadership and intensity to a program at the next level. Tomsich is a young man that should be seen by college coaches and basketball fans.
