Prospect Spotlight: Carvell Teasett (2020)
After spending his frosh season with Southern Lab, 6-foot guard Carvell Teasett has transferred to Scotlandville, and is eager for a new beginning.
Teasett spent his summer playing on the Under Armour circuit with Louisiana Elite 15U, and was a standout at our Top 250 Expo last month.
The Hornets sophomore defined his playing style during a recent phone interview with PHLA.
“My strengths as a player is that I’m able to play as a shooting guard, point guard or small forward. And I can distribute the ball, and I can shoot pretty well and get to the goal,” he said.
“The impact I like to make is with leadership, I like to motivate my teammates, even if we’re up by 20 or down by 20, just keep pushing everybody.”
With Louisiana Elite 15U, Teasett said he played well, for the most part. And he identified defense as the part of his game he needs to improve on.
“This summer I was really scoring well to start off games. I did really well, but I do need to work on my defense, that’s what’s bringing me down with my recruitment, I think,” he said.
So far, he ‘s got two Division I programs that are inquiring about him. With some improved defense and a strong sophomore campaign, he’s hoping some additional schools take notice.
“Schools that are looking at me right now are Tulane and Virginia Tech, they’ve told me to work on my defense and to dribble less,” said Teasett.
“I hope I can get at least five D1 schools interested in me over the next year.”
As his sophomore draws nearer, Teasett explained why it was he made the witch from Southern Lab to Scotlandville.
“I made the switch because I didn’t think I was getting enough work in at Southern Lab, with conditioning drills and things like that,” said Teasett, who will play all JV this season.
“I hope to score 20 points pointer per game, since I’m playing JV. And to be a big contributor for that team, because I want to be great.”
