Prospect Spotlight: Bryce Bultman (2019)
Nashville’s Bryce Bultman is one of the best 2019 point guards nobody has heard of. This 6’4” lead guard has tremendous size for the position. He sees over the floor and has crazy vision. Electric passer that sees passing lanes that others just don’t. Crisp and fluid movements. Handles it well in the open floor and has creativity to make a play with the rock in his hands. Struggled shooting it in the drills portion of the Southern Illinois Fall Skills Day where we recently evaluated him, but once the games got rolling he started drilling them from three. Has a bit of side spin on his shot at times. Bultman is a low-major/D2+ point guard prospect that is going to have a monster junior campaign for Nashville.
Bultman spoke about his summer with the Illinois Bears 16U.
“July went pretty good. We went to Kansas City and won in our division. We played well toward the end of the summer. Those early months together helped us get our chemistry down.”
He broke down his game at this stage.
“I feel my shooting can improve a little bit. I feel I am pretty good finding the open man. I like passing, distributing, and getting those assists.”
His size at the point guard position makes him a mismatch.
“It is a huge advantage because they usually put the smallest guy on you when they see you bring it up the court. If they are on you I can easily look over them and pass it. You can also post them up. If they bring a slower guy I can go around them.”
He is looking forward to a big year with Nashville who will be one of the best programs in southern Illinois.
“I think we should be pretty good. We lost a couple kids and gained a couple kids. We have guys like Tanner, Terry, and Carson. They can all shoot and Tanner is a big man.”
Bultman is the #39 overall prospect and #10 point guard in the 2019 class in Illinois. More colleges need to get on him before it is too late!
