Palmetto State : Recruiting News and Notes
The high school basketball season officially starts practice next week. The last night of the high school football regular season ends tonight. Prep Hoops SC takes a look at some notes from around the Palmetto State in this article.
Kyron Gray has received a scholarship from Benedict (SC) (NCAA D2). Gray 6’7 averaged 10.1 ppg and 9.9 rebounds last season for the Red Foxes. Gray had a good summer playing with Team South Carolina on the AAU Circuit. Gray will look to build on those numbers this season for Hartsville HS. Gray will team up with Trae Hannibal (2018) and Ceasare Edwards (2021) to give the Red Foxes some talent for the future.
The Red Foxes lost 2 senior guards this off season to transferring out.
Former Wilson HS player Duncan Lexander has committed to play at Charleston Southern University in the Big South Conference next season. Lexander is currently doing a second year at the Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA.
Lexander 6’8 had signed with Presbyterian College back in November 2017 before reopening his recruitment in the spring. Lexander really can shoot the ball out on the perimeter.
Several notable basketball players around the Charleston area are having big seasons on the gridiron. Lets take a look at some players heading into the last week of the regular season.
Michel “Mikey” Dukes (First Baptist) – 121 carries – 1400 yards – 19 touchdowns
Leo Albano (Bishop England) – 151 carries – 1355 yards – 23 touchdowns / (53-100) 888 yards 11 touchdown passes
Albano a quarterback became the Bishops leading rusher all-time earlier this season.
Kenyatta Jenkins (West Ashley) – 131 carries – 737 yards – 11 touchdowns
De’lajae Ferguson (Colleton County) – 48 receptions – 682 yards – 5 touchdowns
Tomorrow marks the return of the 3rd Annual Swanny’s Jamboree at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center. 30 teams will be attendance with the action starting at 12:00 P.M. Every team will play 3 games in the event. Legacy Early College, Heritage Academy and Franklin Prep all have South Carolina ties to the event.
