It is going to be hard to beat Lincoln Charter again this season with all that is returning led by Presbyterian commit Kody Shubert but some other teams will have a say so during late February and early March.
Mount Airy gave Lincoln Charter their toughest and closest playoff game (54-51) and return 16 points per game in 6-foot senior guard Caleb Arrington, 11 points per game in 6-foot-2 senior Ryan Graham and 15.1 points per game with Donavon Greene, a class of 2019 prospect.
W-S Prep lost a lot of size, including a 6-8 Zaire Williams, a Fayetteville State recruit, but return several excellent guards including Daivien Williamson and Justice Goodloe. Junior Chaz Gywnn is a big time scorer who is a threat beyond the three-point line. Hard not to count out a team that has won 4 titles in 7 seasons under head coach Andre Gould.
Avery County-With All-District guard Deacon Heath returning, Avery County has the scorer they need to make it to the fourth round of the playoffs for the fourth straight year.
North Stanly returns 6-5 high scoring Cameron Lee who recently re-classed to the 2019 class. Also returning off the 20-8 team is 5-foot-10 PG Bryson Childress and senior forward Jason Doerr.
Cherokee returns Tye Mintz, a two-sport star who averaged a team high on a program that returns everybody after winning 19 games and the Smoky Mountain 1-A tourney. Mintz recently committed to play football at Gardner-Webb.
Hayesville has a chance to be in the talk with WCU commit Josh Cottrell at point guard and returning most of the players that were on the roster last season.
Southeast Halifax returns Roquon Crowell, a 5-foot-11 guard who averaged 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on a 22-6 team. Also returning is 5-foot-6 guard Denazia Bryant who averaged 14.5 points per game.
Rocky Mount Prep should be in the talk at another state title for the school. They return Keyshawn Bryant, a 6-foot-4 junior who averaged 18 points per game last season. Also returning is 6-foot junior guard Trevor Batchelor who averaged 11 points per game last season on a 22-6 team.
