KANSAS BREAK OUT CANDIDATES (2020)
Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some young players who are poised for a big season.
Xavier Bell, 6’3, SG, 2020, Andover Central (Pray N Play)
One of the state’s better young wing players, Bell burst on the scene a year ago and averaged 10 per game. He is a smooth guard with the ability to get the bucket. With the graduation of five seniors and the maturation of Bell, we see him putting together a big sophomore season.
Da’Vonshai Haden, 6’2, G/F, 2020, Highland Park (MoKan Elite)
Harden is a strong, physical player who can play on the perimeter or take his game to the baseline and the paint. He is capable of defending multiple positions in large part due to a combination of strength and athleticism.
Spencer Bain, 6’0, G, 2020, Blue Valley West (MoKan Elite)
Bain brings energy and a spark-plug type attitude to the court. He has good size and a well-rounded skill set on the court. His best attribute is his perimeter shooting, but he has the ability to put the ball on the floor as well.
Jaylin Richardson, 6’0, SG, 2020, Turner (MoKan Elite)
Another strong, physical guard in the Kansas’ 2020 class, Richardson is coming off a big freshman season for Turner and has established himself as one of the premier players in the state in the class. He combines good strength and size and the guard spot with the ability to be a knock down shooter from distance.
Gavin Elkamil, 6’3, SG, 2020, Pittsburg (MoKan Elite)
A year ago, Elkamil established himself as one of the state’s top freshmen guards as he helped lead Pittsburg to a big season and all the way to the Class 5A state championships. He has a well-rounded skill set, able to handle the ball, get to the basket and shoot from the outside.
Reece Williams, 6’6, PF, 2020, Leavenworth (MoKan Elite)
Williams was named the Sunflower Freshman of the Year and was an honorable mention all-conference selection after averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds. He is a tough, physical post player with a terrific feel for scoring the ball in the post.
