Breakout Players to watch – player notes
A “breakout player” is a basketball player who has been ineffective or marginal in the past, but who suddenly becomes a basketball stud one year. Breakout players happen every year in this game, and the teams who acquire those breakout players often challenge for their league title. That’s because a breakout player outperforms wherever they are playing at and for, meaning that owner gets better value than other owners and a major advantage in their starting lineup every week. Remember there is a “sleeper candidates” every year, hoping to add that breakout player.
Lets take a look at Q’s break out player for the upcoming 2018 season…
When you think of a combo guard, you think of a player who can shoot, handle the ball and create opportunities for his teammates. Cole Hicks embodies that style of play. Standing 5 foot 11, his speed and ball handling ability enables him to get to the basket with ease.
Marquan Cannon is a 5’6 point guard from River Ridge High School located in Lacey, Washington. Marquan has had a good sophomore campaign and has carried that aggressive play into the spring/summer showing off his feisty defense and under rated scoring ability. He has stepped his game up and is starting to show how high his ceiling can be. Marquan is currently playing for COB (Community of Basketball). With a roster full of young talent, Marquan has taken the reigns as the leader and captain of the team. At 5’6, you think of a small guard who would struggle amongst the trees of this game; however, he has shown that he is a capable finisher at the rim. He quickly gets the “small feisty defender” label that many guards his size are stuck with. They see his baby face and think that he wont go at you. He counteracts that with a kill or be killed mentality on the floor, which serves him well.
Class of 2019 forward Noah Robinson is the only returning member of last years championship caliber team. With his experience, Noah will be the key element to a successful season for the Life Christian Academy Eagles. As a large 6’4” prospect who looks to score from multiple spots on the court, Noah has been one of the most interesting 2019 prospects we’ve watched this summer.
Class of 2019 point guard Dawson Landers of Capital high school is usually the smallest player on the court, but has the biggest heart. The 5’10 guard plays with a big chip on his shoulder, which enables him to come up with big performances in big games. He is a tough-minded young man who loves when the game is on the line.
Jaden Locke is a 5 foot 11 combo guard from Renton High School. Good frame and athletic build. Nice strength. Like the physical tools with this 2018 wing. He has potential to be a plus defender if he wants to lock in on that end of the floor. Solid ball handler that attacks in transition. Streaky shooter that far too often settles for jump shots from three when he doesn’t shoot it at that high of a rate.
