Blue Collar Workers on the Court – player notes
A blue-collar worker is a working class person who performs non-agricultural manual labor. Blue-collar work may involve skilled or unskilled manufacturing, manual, sanitation, custodial work, oil field work, construction, mechanic, maintenance, warehousing, firefighting, technical installation and many other types of physical work. Often something is physically being built or maintained.
When you speak of a blue collar player you think of a player who does all of the intangibles. A player who bangs in the middle and can also scrap and defend the wing. A player who isn’t worried about stats but does what it take to win the game. Whether it is a hard foul or a key steal with 15 seconds left in the game. Lets take a look at some of those players who fit the bill.
Class of 2017 and Team Arsenal standout 6’8 power forward Andre Kelly is a very skilled post player. Andre enjoyed a highly productive weekend as he kept the motor running throughout the tournament. He is a strong athlete who powered his way to several buckets through traffic and some serious contact. He was a persistent offensive rebounder who got the reward with many put-backs for buckets. He also stepped out and made a number of 15 footers as well as a couple of step-back fade away jumpers.
Class of 2018, 5’10, guard Marquan Williams is a scrappy defender, who works hard on both ends of the court. He is very athletic for his size and makes tough finishes in the paint. He is a true floor general, who is always directing his team and being very vocal.
Spanaway Lake’s Divante Moffitt has been on the rise and continues to turn heads. Moffitt is really good at getting inside the paint and finishing through contact. He’s a physical guard with much more room for improvement. This season will be huge for Moffitt, as he chases a college scholarship.
Class of 2018 Capital combo guard Luke Layton has a plan for himself, and he’s being proactive to put the wheels in motion. The 6-foot-1 rising senior knows what career path he wants to take after college, and he knows where he wants to be in order to make that a reality. He’s shaping his recruitment to make that happen.
Class of 2018 Lake Washington’s sharp shooter Dalton Liesse is preparing for a strong senior season. Liesse has a really nice feel for the game, always making the right decisions with the ball. He has a high basketball IQ and its well known for his defense first, smooth jump shot and deep range. He is a tough tenacious defender that can guard you 94 feet. He has good foot work which enables him to keep quicker guards in front of him.
