The Basketball Interview with Jeffrey Schuch
Dell Rapids forward Jeffrey Schuch has improved every year and now he’s less than two months from his senior season. Today Jeffrey talked to PHD for The Basketball Interview.
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
JS: My favorite part of the game day routine at Dells is showing up to the C and JV games. Our student section usually shows up really early and gets into the JV and C games which is really fun.
What makes your crowd unique?
JS: Our crowd is absolutely crazy. They are always there going nuts wherever we are playing. One memorable thing that they’ve done is having a kid crowd surf at regions my sophomore year and junior year. Region championships at the Elmen Center are always fun when the sea of orange comes out.
Who is the toughest player you have faced?
JS: The toughest player I’ve played against is probably Chad Barkema from Sioux Falls Christian. My sophomore year I had the job of guarding him. He’s a good player with a very complete game.
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
JS: Our biggest rival is definitely Madison. Whatever sport you play Dells and Madison are going at it. Over my years of playing we’ve both been great teams fighting for the top of our conference.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
JS; My favorite basketball player in the world is Kevin Durant. It’s fun watching him because his game is so all around.
All basketball players love gear. What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
JS: I wear most of the main brands but if I had to choose one it would be Nike.
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
JS: My favorite venue to play at is the Elmen Center. Nothing is better than playing there battling with Madison and SFC for region championships.
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
JS: I think playing at Denny Premiere Center would be a great time.
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
JS: Varsity players a great relationship with youth players in Dells. We help out with tournaments and basketball camps during the summer.
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
JS: Mick Hoglund told me one of my younger years of high to school to not think too much and just play the game. I think that’s really important.
Who is your basketball influence?
JS: Growing up my family always pushed me to work hard in basketball. But my first two years of high school Ty Hoglund really pushed me to be great.
