The Basketball Interview with Cole Gandreau
Cole Gendreau averaged 18.1 points. 4.6 assists, four rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game last year. Today he talks in The Basketball Interview.
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
CG: Going to a Catholic school we are given the opportunity to have chapel and prayer as a team before every game.
What makes your crowd unique? What is a memorable thing that they’ve done that you will always remember?
CG: Our Pep band makes our crowd unique because we have a fairly small gym so it makes it very loud and gets you hyped before the game.
Who is the toughest player you can recall playing against in Minnesota basketball and why?
CG: The toughest player I have played against has to be Aanen Moody from Dickinson. The reason is pretty obvious, he is a very skilled shooter and has the most points in Class A basketball history
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
CG: My biggest rival team wise is BHS (Bismarck High School) because we are usually pretty close in standings and our games are usually tight. Also because its one of the longest rivalries in the WDA.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
CG: My favorite player is Doug McDermott. I always have liked him ever since he played for Creighton. He doesn’t get much playing time in the NBA but when he’s in the game he makes an impact.
All basketball players love gear. What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
CG: I prefer Nike over any other brand because they offer the coolest equipment
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
CG: My favorite venue I have played at is the Civic Center in Bismarck
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
CG: My dream court to play on would probably be Cameron Indoor stadium.
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
CG: We have a good relationship because all of our varsity players volunteer and help run a youth camp in the summer
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
CG: “You can go into the paint and live to tell about it, you don’t have to stay behind the three point line” – Chad Schon
Who is your basketball influence?
CG: My basketball influence would have to be Coach Brent DeKok because most of my family is a hockey family.
