3A Watch List: Wings and Posts
With the season nearly underway, there are some wings and posts in 3A who should be on people’s watch lists. This group of wings and posts have a versatile skill set. Below are the wings and posts who will make an impact in this upcoming season.
3A Watch List: Wings and Posts
Parker Edgington 6’1 SG/SF 2018 Judge
Edgington plays basketball with the physicality of a football player. This enables him to make plays and do the dirty work despite only being 6’1. Edgington will need some of the other players from Judge to step up and play bigger roles for the team to reach their optimal potential. However, he will bring a toughness that is contagious to the rest of the group.
Jay Gilson 6’7 PF/C 2018 Summit Academy
Gilson is one of the most versatile prospects in the 3A and one of the only true rim protectors. In addition to averaging almost 1.5 blocks per game, he altered countless others as well. As he continues to expand his shooting range, the more and more his stock will increase. He will play a huge role for Summit this season.
Nick Maness 5’9 SG 2018 Summit Academy
Maness, despite being undersized, shoots it with the best of them. He is a knockdown shooter who assists Summit Academy greatly due to his ability to spread the floor. Maness only participated in 13 games last year which did not stop him from averaging near 2 threes per game and only missing 5 for the whole season.
Caleb Barton 5’11 SG 2018 South Sevier
Barton is undersized 2 but he can make plays as well as anyone in 3A. He is capable of attacking the rim and finishing in the paint. However, he is primarily known for his ability to shoot the basketball from deep. He does it in an array of ways which makes him very difficult to guard. Further, he plays alongside a solid pass first point guard in Tebbs who gets him the ball in spots where he can be successful.
Kyson Stilson 6’1 SG 2019 Emery
Stilson’s numbers were not overly impressive in one particular category last season. However, he demonstrated that he is capable of contributing in a number of different ways. He will need to continue to be a stat stuffer for Emery this upcoming season.
Jaden Torgenson 6’2 SG/SF 2018 San Juan
Speaking of stat stuffers, Torgenson did a little bit of everything for San Juan last season. He was second in rebounds and scoring while leading the team in assists. His ability to do a little bit of everything at a high level makes him dangerous and one of the toughest players to prepare for in all of 3A.
Marcus Sherwood 6’5 PF/C 2018 Providence Hall
Sherwood is listed as a center as that is what he primarily plays for Providence Hall. However, he is a decent shooter from deep and is capable of stretching the floor. Making him able to be more of a pop 4. Further, he is a monster on the glass and finds a way to get his hand on a lot of tough 50/50 balls.
Derek Smith Derek Smith 6'1" | PF Delta | 2020 State UT 5’11 PG/SG 2020 Delta
Despite his youth, Smith led this group in scoring last year and looks poised to have another big season for Delta in this upcoming season. If that was not impressive enough, Smith shot it nearly 40% from the three point line. Smith has an extremely bright future and will be the go to player once again for a Delta team that will be much improved this upcoming season.
Trevor Burton 6’3 SF/PF 2018 Delta
Burton led Delta in rebounds and blocked shots despite only being 6’3. In addition to bringing toughness and grit to the team, he is a consistent shooter from deep. Between him and Smith, Delta will put two knock down shooters on the court at all times. They will be ready for a solid season.
Brayden Schultz 5’11 SG/SF 2018 Grand County
Despite only being 5’11, Schultz is more of a threat in the paint and on the glass than he is from the perimeter. Hence, why he is better suited in the wings and posts category than in the guards. He hustles and competes with the best of them and creates extra opportunities for him and his teammates. As Schultz continues to improve his ability to shoot the basketball with consistency, his ability to impact the game will improve.
