Why A Frontrunner: Their are numerous reasons why Oak Hill is a frontrunner in 2A. The fact that they have one of the biggest lineups, they go 6’8, 6’5, 6’6, 6’3. Not only that but all that size, they are all seniors. This is one of, if not the most veteran lineup in 2A and bring a lot of wins and experience into a season where they are among the best teams straight out of the game. They came up short of a Sectional Championship last year as they lost to Southwood but now Southwood is a 1A team and there isn’t another on the same level in this Sectional. Beyond that, they know how to score points. They put up 66.8 points per contest as a team last year and with another year of development, it is going to be really hard to see that not improve.
Outlook: The outlook for this group is very positive. They should win a ton of games with a schedule not as difficult as last year and outside of the Hall of Fame Tournament in late December, they aren’t really doing anything crazy. They do have some tough games with teams like Frankton, Southwood, and a big Lawrence North home game but overall, not a difficult schedule. Would be easy to see 20+ wins heading into the playoffs. From there, they should be the favorite in 2A North with the potential pitfall early on being a Regional Final game against Lapel or Frankton. They could see a high-scoring team in Semistate with Westview or Marquette Catholic but Oak Hill should be the favorite when looking at things right now. However, 2A South isn’t nearly as good and even getting into the State Finals right now, this team full of seniors, size, and scoring power, should be the favorite.
