2A Frontrunners: Indianapolis Howe
The season is getting closer and closer and we are starting to dive into the rosters and Sectionals that will help to determine who are the top competition for each class. Today, we take a look into 2A and the frontrunners. Today, we breakdown Indianapolis Howe.
Last Year’s Record: 18-9
Head Coach: Kristoff Kendrick
Top Returning Players: Tony Hopkins (Sr.), Jeff Sultzer (Sr.), Kycia Washington (Jr.)
Top Departures: Rashawn Rush (Graduate), Jermaine Couch (Graduate)
New Additions: Jamil Turner-Hall (Transfer)
Why A Frontrunner: The reason Howe is a frontrunner? They go south. Going north in 2A is really difficult but south is much easier with only a couple teams that realistically have what it takes to get to Banker’s Life Fieldhouse. It is a pretty easy road for Howe but not only that, they have a pretty solid core group with seniors Tony Hopkins, Jeff Sultzer, and Fishers (IN) transfer Jamil Turner-Hall along with junior standout Kycia Washington. Those four make a really, really good group of perimeter players with a new head coach that will allow them to play quick. This team should really be able to apply the kind of pressure that will have them blowing a bunch of teams out. Their schedule is solid but allows for some growing pains. They have enough talent that some teams won’t be able to matchup well with them with so many talented perimeter players.
Outlook: They should have a good season with a high chance for a great one. Head coach Kristoff Kendrick will look to do what Attucks head coach Chris Hawkins did last year, winning a State Championship in his first year of head coaching. They have some really tough games against teams like Cathedral, Lawrence North, Gary 21st Century, and Broad Ripple. However, they have plenty of chances to get things as solid as possible before Sectionals begin. Their Sectional will be easy except for a matchup against Shenandoah who will be solid. After that, Regionals would like be a Finals matchup against Park Tudor or Scecina but Semistate would be much easier. Survive the first weekend and you have a legit shot to make it to the State Finals.
