From Sophomores to Juniors – New wave of young talent
With a new wave of talent hitting the Washington area there is a certain buzz you can feel when walking the streets of Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia. I can truly say this the most excited I’ve been in a long time. With power houses like Garfield, Rainier Beach, Cleveland, Bellarmine Prep, Timberline, Lincoln, Federal Way, Decatur and many other schools who have some of the best talent in the state.
2019, 6’1 guard, Elijah Pepper has had his fair share of accolades when it comes to the game of basketball. Currently attending Selah High School. Elijah has the size, speed and athleticism to compete at the D1 level. Winning Athlete of the year for the 201+-2017 for Selah High School he states is one of his most greatest accomplishments. A humbled, hardworking, smart and respectable young man will also remember where he comes from and will pay homage to their stomping grounds. I would argue that some of his greatest accomplishments are yet to come.
2019, 6’1 point guard, Charles Elzie III. Charles is one of the best in the state at running an offense and passing the ball and he was rewarded with a string of interest from some top level schools and should pick more up in the month of July. Seattle Select is one of the top AAU programs on this side of the mountain. Charles will see his share of college coaches.
2019, 5’10 point guard, Dawson Landers. The 5’10 guard plays with a big chip on his shoulder, which enables him to come up with big performances in big games. He is a tough-minded young man who loves when the game is on the line.
2019, 6’10 center, Zane Foster. With a 6’10” frame, he showed that he can guard out on the perimeter at the showcase as well. His jumper is looking more consistent and he is a threat from deep. He is a persistent offensive rebounder who got the reward with many put-backs for buckets. He can also stepped out and made a number of 15 footers as well as a couple of step-back fade away jumpers. His touch around the hoop is solid, but he could use a few more post moves in his arsenal at the next level. He has the length and moves well off ball to get in good positions for easy dunks and layups already though.
2019, 5’9 point guard, Roman Barnet. Roman has a good frame and athletic build. Nice strength. Like the physical tools with this 2018 wing. He has potential to be a plus defender if he wants to lock in on that end of the floor. Solid ball handler that attacks in transition. Streaky shooter that far too often settles for jump shots from three when he doesn’t shoot it at that high of a rate.
