Myles Tate- Dorman (pictured above)
Tate is our #1 ranked player in the state for 2020, and for good reason. He looked great early on in drills on Sunday but hit a rough patch to start game play, as his team was plagued by selfish play. Tate made adjustments though, and made an impact in a variety of ways. The 6’0” PG is a versatile scorer, passes well, and makes plays on defense with energy and toughness. Look for Tate to have a great season for Dorman this year.
Sam Brown- Travelers Rest
Brown had been talked about as a lights-out shooter before Sunday, and his shooting ability was apparent at camp. However, it seemed like he made a point to show the other parts of his game during the day as well. He slashed well and converted on some difficult finishes after getting hit. Another thing that caught my eye was that Brown always seemed to be around the ball; he made a bunch of pesky, hustle plays that coaches love. Travelers Rest has a good one in Brown.
PJ Hall- Dorman
Hall was one of the fastest rising bigs this summer and currently stands at #8 in our SC rankings. Hall continued his upward trend at camp, showing one of the most well-rounded skill sets that you’ll see for a forward his age. He provides an excellent inside-out game; he understands when to go down low or step out to the perimeter and is efficient in either area. One of Hall’s best qualities is that he makes an effort to run the floor hard all the time and this creates a lot of opportunities for him. You have to like where Hall’s game is going.
Keyan Mims- York Prep
If you tried to stop Mims on his way to the basket at camp, you were probably going to fail. Mims got to the basket at will, rising up over defenders and finishing through contact consistently. At 6’5”, Mims has great height for a young wing and impressive athleticism to go with it. Mims also sports a mature frame for a 2020 player and has no problem with being physical. York Prep is loaded but Mims should make an impact for the team.
Isaiah Caldwell- Heathwood
There weren’t many 2020 players at camp who have the type of athleticism that Caldwell possesses. He is extremely explosive in the open court and knows how to use his length to finish. Caldwell was in attack mode all day and benefitted from this approach. This 6’3” PG also distributed the ball well and hit some outside shots, although he could improve his consistency there. Caldwell will be one to watch at Heathwood this season.
