Region Preview: 6A Southwest
The Southwest region appears to have more depth than it did last year. Although there were a couple of skill prospects who left this region at the end of last year, this region looks stronger. The top teams in the Southwest region could be competing to be the top teams in the state as well.
Region Preview: 6A Southwest
1. Westview
Westview brings back highly touted guard D’Maurian Williams who has been making noise on the varsity level since his freshman year. In addition to Williams, Christian Diaz returns with a do-it-all mentality. His toughness and commitment to doing the little things makes him a key member of this team. Further, Westview received key transfers in Cameron Katel, a skilled big man who is rapidly improving, and Cedric Bridges. Bridges will bring a lot of toughness and athleticism to the group.
2. La Joya
Although La Joya was quite senior heavy last year, they had a talented group of sophomores on the roster. Over the summer, La Joya looked like they did not miss a beat. They have a lot of athleticism and depth on their roster. Further, they execute their dribble drive and four corner offense as well as anyone in the state. Keep an eye on Keywan Cody and this super talented group of now juniors.
3. Millennium
Millennium lost a couple of key pieces of team that looked like they had a lot of promise at times. However, they bring back one of the best stat stuffers in the region in Eric Fahy. In addition to Fahy, they have two of the most promising prospects in the state in Justus Jackson and DeRon Holmes. Holmes is ready to make an impact now while Jackson showed, over the summer, that he is capable of doing big things early as well.
