Recruiting Report: Matthew Poquette (2018)
Class of 2018, 6’7, forward Matt Poquette looks to add a state title to his already lengthy resume. His game is improving and he will be a force this season. With the departure of Kaleb Poquette his brother who was a big star at Morton White pass High School. Matt has taken the reigns and looks to have a memorable senior year.
Matt is a very good ball handler for his size, who loves pushing the break, getting to the rim, finishing with rim rockers. He has elite court vision and facilitates at a high level. Matt has a smooth jump shot, which he has worked hard to master but mixes it up pretty good on the floor. He is small forward by skill set but can also step out and play some wing. I think if he can really take his 3 point shot to the next level he can begin to get some high D1 interest.
I got a chance to talk with Matt about his upcoming season, AAU and how his game has improved over the spring and summer.
“Over the summer I have been in the gym a lot working on my perimeter shot and also adding weight and strength by getting in the weight room almost every day! I played AAU with Washington supreme and got a lot better over the summer.”
“Going into the summer I wanted to get my name out there and prove that I can play with the best kids in the state, I think throughout the summer I proved that I am able to play with the best kids in the area. From last year to this year, I have become a lot more consistent with my jump shot, so I am hoping I can carry that into season and add another threat to my game. My role last year was to be a leader and compete on the defensive end as well as being our main scoring threat, this year I see my role being the same, but I think I will do better at it this year.”
“My goal for this season is to make it to state, as a team we feel like we have a good shot at competing for a title so we are trying to get back to Spokane and play in the state tournament and see what happens. On the court, my biggest strength is my ability to fill multiple roles and my versatility allows me to do a little bit of everything. I also think I am a very strong presence on the defensive end of the court.”
“I am being recruited by a handful of colleges; my current offers are from Hawaii Hilo and Eastern Oregon University.”
