Recruiting Report: Greg Rowson (2018)
Greg Rowson is a player to watch for Robinson this season. The 6-foot-5 forward, who is in the midst of a growth spurt, will be expected to play a key role in the Rams front court as a senior.
“I was more one dimensional. That’s just shooting,” said Rowson, who says he was closer to 6’1″ this time last year. “I think I’ve developed going to the basket as part of my game.”
Late growth spurts run in Rowson’s family. He hopes that he can add strength as he continues to grow into his body. While on the AAU circuit this summer with the Nova Cavaliers, Rowson learned how to play against more physical competition.
“I think I learned how to play against more physical competition,” he stated. “I think in high school they call more fouls. AAU gets you prepared to get tougher and fight through physicality.”
A good all-around offensive all around player, Rowson defends the post well. While he tends to have a little more trouble defending quicker guards, he is comfortable guarding all three front court positions. Offensively, he can play anywhere form the two to the five.
“My post play is underrated. Just because that’s something I’ve developed recently, so not a lot of people have seen me show hat part of my game,” Rowson began. “I’ve gotten better at finding a matchup, and when I do get the matchup go down to the post and score with my back to the basket. I only go there when I have a matchup that’s in my favor.”
Rowson is considered a leader for team on and off the floor. He says he has a 3.2 GPA, a 1210 SAT score, and got a 25 on the ACT. Rowson doesn’t want to go to a huge school, and is considering smaller public schools as well as private schools. While he hasn’t decided what he wants to study, he is considering Psychology or Environmental Science.
“I can see myself being a good leader for the team. Trying to get our team further than we have in the past. I think the last couple years we haven’t achieved as much as we were supposed to,” Rowson said. “I think we can do big things this year. I think we have one of the best front courts in the state.”
Mary Washington, Roanoke, Franklin & Marshall, Hood College, CNU, and Dickinson are the schools actively recruiting Rowson at the moment. He has visited Mary Washington, Roanoke, and Hood each within the last month. A couple of the schools mentioned have stood out above the rest for Rowson.
“I really liked the facilities at Mary Washington, and I really liked the coach,” he said. “I also really liked Roanoke. One of my target schools in the past has been CNU. It’s a really good school with a really good basketball program.
Rowson hit 20 threes in a relatively limited role during his junior season. Expect his production to increase significantly in his final high school campaign. What can he bring to a college program?
“I think I’m a good all around player. I’m hoping I can be an offensive weapon on the team. As I get stronger, and grow a little bit more, I can be more of a threat.”
