Recruiting Report: Anthony Douglas (2018)
Anthony Douglas emerged as a dominant post presence during his junior year at Robinson. The 6-foot-8 center, who returns for his senior year after leading his team in scoring, will once again be an integral factor to his team’s success.
“I’ve definitely improved at playing outside the post,” said Douglas. “In the past when I was matched up against smaller guys who weren’t as quick, I’d try to back them down. Now I’m comfortable facing up and beating people off the dribble. Its easier for me to catch it outside the paint, and make a move.”
As the starting center on the AAU circuit for 17U Fairfax Stars this summer, Douglas played well, and saw an uptick in his recruitment. He demonstrated the ability to catch and shoot from the mid range areas of the floor. Douglas has always been best with his back to the basket, but is beginning to expand his offensive arsenal.
“My shooting is not great right now honestly, but during AAU season I had a lot more confidence,” Douglas stated. “Hopefully when high schools season comes that will translate.”
CNU is considered a favorite to land Douglas at the moment. He mentioned that their campus stood out among all the others he’s visited. Staying in or around Virginia is a priority for Douglas in his ultimate decision.
“We wanna go as far as we can. Regionals would be nice,” Douglas said of his team goals. “For me, I want to play in the regional finals at Robinson. Because we didn’t get to do that last year.”
What can Douglas bring to a college program?
“Playing to what they give me. If they put a big guy on me, I’ll go down low and attack. If they want to let me shoot, I can shoot. Whatever they give me.”
