Recruiting Report 2018: Terrence Gibbons
Terrence Gibbons, 6’7.5″, Combo Forward, 2018. Dr. Henry Wise Pumas HS. Upper Marlboro, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team Takeover Orange
In the Washington, DC DMV when a very good or excellent player plays on a talented team like the Wise Pumas, they sacrifice for the team & play their role. Terrence says,”My role last season was to be the scrappy player on defense, score in my strong points or kick to the shooters.” Last year Wise was ranked #2 in the Washington DC, DMV with a 21-1 record, starting 4 senior starters which included All Mets Michael Speight & Darron Barnes, Brent Ingram & Brandon Howell.
This year Terrence’s role will increase and he says.”I will be the go to man & will have to expand my game by making sure my teammates know the offensive & defensive sets. I will be a captain & provide all around leadership for us. This will Terrence’s year to shine & we have him rated as one of the top breakout players this coming year. However, when we scouted Wise last year on numerous occasions Terrence’s talent & value to the Pumas was very significant. Wise has reloaded & will challenge for a MD 4A State Title for 2017/18. Terrence will play a big role & we project him as a D1 mid major prospect. Please read our Wise HS tam overview in the link below:

We scouted the new Wise HS Pumas & Terrence this summer at the DeMatha BSN summer League & the University of Maryland team games where Wise impressed us with their depth, athleticism, talent, toughness & a developing chemistry. Terrence performed very well & displayed his versatile skill set, toughness & leadership in every game. He had an excellent spring & summer on the grassroots circuit averaging 10ppg, 10 rebounds & several blocks for the highly rated Team Takeover Orange. We talked with Terrence this week who says,”I consider myself as a stretch 4 with rim protection skills. I am very versatile and can score from inside out. From the perimeter I have expanded my game to the college 3 point line & I can hit mid range shots off the dribble or flex cuts. My post play is very strong & when I catch the ball in the paint I can face up, jab left & attack the rim with my strong hand. Also, I can score of jump hooks with either hand & I have a good drop step move. My basketball IQ is high and I can pick up my best options wherever I am on the court with my court vision & make the correct read very quickly. Coach does not want us to hold onto the ball & preaches ball movement.” Wise Head Coach Rob Garner adds, “Terence is our only 4 year varsity player. He has continued to get better in with every phase of the game. His leadership & experience will be needed tremendously as he steps into a major role this season.” We have no doubt Terrence will rise to the challenge.
Defensively Terrence says, “Defense is a strong point & I am a very good on ball defender & my steps out are very quick. Coach Garner demands team defense & I am a strong help side defender. If we press I can pick up my man full court & in zone traps I utilize my wingspan for deflections & steals. I consider myself a very good rim protector & I can alter shots & get a few blocks each game.
Since the Grassroots & summer leagues have concluded Terrence is working very hard on strength & conditioning, basketball drills, & running 5 on 5 pickup games until Wise begins its fall schedule. Terrence adds,”Additionally, I am putting in the work to improve my left hand, shooting off the dribble, & attacking the rim off the dribble from the wing.” In his spare time Terrence studies Akeem Olajuwon’s footwork & moves in the low post & Kevin Durant’s pull up & slashing game. To date Terence is receiving interest from UMBC, Wheeling Jesuit & LIU NY. This season we expect offers to come for Terrence & we will be covering Wise Hs & Terrence this season with live game reports in addition to new player reports.
