Recruiting Report 2018: Cornell Hanna
Cornell Hanna, 6’4″, SF, PF, 2018. Clarksburg HS Coyotes HS. Clarksburg, MD.
Grassroots Team: Germantown Heat.
Cornell had a very successful summer playing for Clarksburg HS in the MD Elite Summer League & in Grassroots play for the Germantown Heat. Clarksburg played very well this summer despite missing some key players & finishing at 6-4 in the regular season. In Grassroots play Cornell averaged 15 ppg & 10 rpg for the Germantown Heat. He will start again for Clarksburg HS who we rate as a sleeper & dangerous team wh0 could challenge for a MOCO 4a Regional Title.
We are very impressed with Cornell who is a very under the radar player with a great upside. He is a an excellent college prospect who we currently rate in the D2 / D3 range. Last season Cornell played SF & PF, but we believe he could transition to a WG at the next level. He is a very solid all around player who plays with great energy & leadership. Cornell is a very, very good athlete who can jump & run the court in transition. We spoke with Cornell this summer who said, “My 1st priority is getting a win & I bring a lot of emery & hustle to Clarksburg. Attacking the rim off the dribble is a strong point & I like to use my athleticism to hit the offensive glass.”
We have seen Cornell get a rebound in traffic & go to coast in transition finishing at the rim with a variety of acrobatic moves. He possesses a patented Euro Step move in transition or in the half court. Cornell can can score from both sides of the floor with both hands finishing thru contact. He has a very nice burst of explosion & he can dunk off one leg on the fast break or from the wing.
We really like his shot mechanics & Cornell is a very good free throw shooter. While Cornell is very capable of scoring from all 3 levels he adds,”This summer I am putting in a lot of work on my shooting. I am practicing my 3 point shot on & off the dribble, and pull ups thru flex cuts. My ball handling is improving, but I want to get to a CG skill level. I am working out with trainer Calvin Johnson in these areas in addition to my overall basketball skills & strength & conditioning. I know I can take my game to another level & I am working on basketball 6 days a week” In addition to scoring in transition & the wing Cornell has an excellent power & post up game. He can score by overpowering his defender & on face ups, drop steps & spins moves.
On the defense end, Cornell uses his very long wingspan for rebounds, steals & deflections. His on ball, help side & close out defense is very good. To date Keene State, Frostburg State and Marymount are showing interest, but we expect Cornell’s recruiting to pick up this season. We will be following Clarksburg & Cornell this season with live game reports & Recruiting Reports & Prospect Highlights for the Coyote players.
