Prospect Watch: Cason Suggs (2018)
Class of 2018 forward Cason Suggs of Washington High is following in a long line of brothers who have been basketball standouts at the Franklin County school.
Oldest brother Scott is a former Mr. Show-Me Basketball who is now playing professionally in Italy. Skyler Suggs was a prep basketball standout who went on to play football at the collegiate level while Ronnie Suggs is currently a redshirt sophomore at Missouri after an all-state career at Washington.
Cason Suggs, a 6’7″ forward is the baby of the family and late bloomer who is developing into quite a player in his own right. He credits his brothers for helping in developing into a player who has received recruiting interest from schools such as Central Arkansas, Lindenwood and Maryville.
“They have helped me in every way,” Cason Suggs said. “Everything from not going easy on me to teaching me footwork and working with my shot. I owe a lot to my brothers for my success.”
The best part about Suggs’ game is his high motor and energy level that he has on both ends of the court. He runs the court hard, he is an excellent offensive rebounder and he will challenge shots around the rim. He is a very effective player facing the basket with a nice high-arching jumper from the perimeter.
“My strengths are rebounding, put back and all-around scoring,” Suggs said. “I’ve put in a lot of work on my finishes on my shot, but I don’t shy away from all the hustle plays that I’m known for.”
As a junior, Suggs averaged 10 points and seven rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field and blocking 38 shots. He had a couple of breakout games, such as a 25-point, 10-rebound performance against Westminster in the championship of the Washington Tournament. He also had 17 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks in a win over Fort Zumwalt North. He is looking to improve those totals as a senior.
“I just want to play better than I ever have and end my career with a bang,” he said. “I will be a much more sound player this upcoming season.”
