Prospect Watch: Caleb Love (2020)
Class of 2020 guard Caleb Love of CBC is one of the most talented young prospects in the state of Missouri.
The 6’3″ Love made an immediate impact as a starter for the Cadets as a freshman and played up at the 16U level with Brad Beal Elite during summer grassroots season in the Nike EYBL. Love was a valuable player for Brad Beal Elite with his instant offense as they qualified for the 16U Peach Jam in mid-July.
“The experience of playing at the 16U level during the summer was fun,” Love said. “Just alone, being able to play in the EYBL was a lifetime dream come true. I got to see what I really had to work on to be at that top level.”
Love has already received some early recruiting interest from Division I schools such as Iowa, DePaul, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State and Missouri State. At the end of the summer, Love also received his first offer from nearby SIU-Edwardsville.
“It meant a lot to get my first offer,” Love said. “It felt unreal.”
As a freshman at CBC, Love was third on the team in scoring at 8.6 points a game. He had a stretch of seven consecutive games at mid-season in which he scored in double figures, which included a 20-point performance against Hazelwood Central in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. Love showcased his ability to score, but he can also facilitate as he has the size and court vision to see over defenses.
“The experience of playing varsity was great,” Love said. “I learned a lot and it helped me going into the AAU season playing against guys older than me. I would describe my offense as a playmaking guard who puts his teammates before him, but can also score at any time.”
After helping the Cadets to a 20-10 record and a berth in the Class 5 state quarterfinals as a freshman, Love will play an even bigger role as a sophomore in 2018.
“My goals for my sophomore year are first and foremost create a better relationship with God,” he said. “Secondly, I want to go the whole year with straight As, nothing less. I want to win as many games as possible and on top of that, win a state championship.”
