Prospect Spotlight: Marcus Collins (2020)
A top-5 prospect from Washington’s 2020 class, 5-foot-10 point guard Marcus Collins recently switched schools, and has his sights set on leading his new one to the Tacoma Dome.
The former Garfield up-and-comer is now a West Seattle sophomore. And he’s ready to blaze his own trail with the Wildcats.
Collins and his family recently moved into the West Seattle school district, rendering the standout point guard eligible right away this season.
“I think my sophomore year at West Seattle will go really well, hopefully I can lead us to the Tacoma Dome and win state. That’s my goal: is to win state.”
Collins will bring some toughness and skill to West Seattle, and defined his playing style as well as what he’ll be looking to improve as he heads into the winter.
“My strengths are that I can see the floor, I’m a good point guard; I can shoot, I can pass, I can do a lot of things. I have a lot of toughness and I play hard and everything. I love to pass first and get my teammates easy buckets before I do,” said Collins, who played up a grade with 16U Elite Sports Academy this offseason.
“I’m looking to improve on my strength, size-wise. I noticed when I was playing up with the 16U that I was a little undersized, so I need to get a bigger upper body. And defensive-wise, I need to work on that, and my athletic ability.”
As for his recruitment, Collins says he’s not too focused on things like that right now. And that included his high ranking (No. 5 in 2020) from Prep Hoops Washington.
“Honestly, I haven’t really paid attention to the rankings and everything. I’ve heard people say I’m ranked high, but I don’t pay attention to it; I really don’t,” said Collins.
“And my dad handles all of that recruitment. I just stay focused to the game, to the grind, and get to the gym and grind it out; that’s what I really focus on.”
