Prospect Spotlight: Deondre Bonaparte
Some people have an attitude of success. It’s very rarely something that is learned, but more often an innate skill that comes naturally. While we witness people with this attitude in everyday life, it is an extremely rare trait. In high school basketball, we are sometimes lucky enough to see a player with this attitude. It can be the factor that leads a player to the pinnacle of success.
Deondre Bonaparte is a Michigan high school basketball player that exhibits an attitude of success. He is a combo guard in the class of 2019, from Ferndale High School. Bonaparte is excellent in beating his defender off the ball. He creates space and finishes with a consistent mid-range game. His range is limitless from beyond the arc, and he can get hot quickly. Bonaparte is continuing to work on finishing around the rim, as well as refining his three point shot.
He has been showing his attitude of success since the school year ended by staying busy on the court this spring and summer. Bonaparte hit the weight room hard and developed muscle mass. This will serve him well since he is a physical player who thrives on contact. He believes he is on the verge of having a breakout season and that his game is on the verge of truly being noticed.
Deondre Bonaparte has big goals for this coming high school season. He wants his team to win the OAA Blue Division, and for them to make noise in the state tournament. Personally, he wants to have a high school career that results in 1000 points and 1000 assists. Bonaparte wants to become a player that everyone remembers. He envisions himself getting a full ride scholarship someday.
Bonaparte has a lot of things he can bring to the table for a college program. His attitude of success may be the most important. He believes that wherever he goes, and whoever he plays with, they will be successful. He bring dynamic leadership and an excellent work ethic. He is the type of basketball player coaches like to have control the huddle. Bonaparte quite simply, makes the players around him better. He recognizes his teammates strengths and urges them to take advantage of them.
Deondre Bonaparte’s attitude of success comes naturally, partly because of the positive influences that he has and keeps around him. He believes that his dad was one of his greatest motivators because he taught to strive for more, even when he thought he couldn’t go any more. His uncle has always challenged him to be great as well. His mom has instilled the belief that he should always focus on school, because that is most important.
Deondre Bonaparte’s attitude of success shines through when he is asked what his greatest moment in high school basketball has been so far. “My biggest moment of high school basketball is being one of the most underrated players in the state,” he said. Bonaparte believes in himself, both on and off the court. He doesn’t THINK he’ll be successful, he KNOWS it.
