Prospect Spotlight: Anthony Walker (2019)
The Perry Hall Gators will have a target on their backs this season since being crowned the class 4A state champions last season. They lost a few key seniors, but return their three-headed monster that includes LaQuill Hardnett, Anthony Higgs and Tyler Holley. One player that will look to step in immediately and fill a void to continue their dominance is Anthony Walker.
Walker is a 6’9 athletic forward. That gives the Gators three forwards, all standing 6’9, that have tremendous athleticism and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Walker is still developing his game to become as versatile and Hardnett and Higgs, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be a force for the reigning champs.
“Competing against them is tough,” said Walker on working out with Hardnett and Higgs. “They’re top players in the area, but it’s really helping me improve my all-around game. It has forced me to improve especially guarding on the ball defensively.”
Walker has experience playing at the varsity level. Immediately after the junior varsity concluded, he was moved up and made appearances in each game on their road to the state championship.
“It was a good experience,” Walker told PrepHoops. “I learned a lot from the older players. They took me under their wing and now I just want to show them it paid off by being a contributor this year.”
Walker is always a threat to be on the receiving end of a lob offensively. But this spring and summer, he focused on improving his jumpshot when he was in the gym by himself and when he played a key role for Team BBC’s 16U Adidas Uprising squad.
As the high school season approaches, Walker has a new skill he wants to improve.
“Creating my own shot,” Walker said. “I need to work on being able to score using moves off the dribble and not just count on my teammates creating looks for me.”
UConn, Mt. St. Mary’s and American are among the list of schools that have shown interest in the 6’9 athlete.
