Prospect Spotlight 2021: Isiah Edmundson
Isiah Edmundson, 6’2″, CG, 2021. New Town Titans HS. Owings Mills, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team United 14U
We got our 1st glimpse of Isiah at the DMV Elite 2021 Showcase on September 10 in Bowie, MD & he was very impressive. He will be an incoming freshmen this season for New Town HS which is located just outside of Baltimore. The Titans posted a 24-2 recorded in 2015/16 capturing a MD 2A State Title. After a 14-13 record last season the Titans look to rebound to their old from with some up & coming players this coming season. It is not known whether Isiah will play varsity or JV this for 2017/18. However, we will watching his progress either way. This Grassroots season Isiah had an excellent season with Baltimore United, scoring 17 ppg, 7 rebounds, 2 plus steals per game & probably 5 plus assists per game. This coming Grassroots season Isiah plans to play for Team BBC 15U who play on the Adidas Circuit.
In Bowie, Isiah displayed a very nice mid range & ability to attack the rim off the dribble from both sides of the court. He proved to be a very good ball handler & showed the ability to score from all 3 levels. Although, we have only seen Isiah once, he appears to have poise & a very high basketball IQ. We asked Isiah about his offensive skills & he replied,” I can shoot off the dribble from the 3 point line from both sides of the court. I am working to increase my range & consistency. My shot is a strong point and I have good rotation & follow thru. Some of my best ball-handling moves are the in & out crossover & between the legs hesitation. I can bring the ball up against pressure & beat my man off the dribble.” We were very impressed with Isiah’s shot mechanics & high elevation in addition to his handle.Although Isiah is only 14 years old he has very, very good vertical & can dunk easily. He has great poise & a great understanding of what it takes to win.
On defense Isiah moves his feet very well & has good lateral movement. He stays in front of his man, and is very focused on he court. Isiah shows very good speed & quickness on both sides of the ball. He works on basketball 6 days a week with his Dad and Personal Trainer Choo Smith. Isiah adds, “I want to continually improve on all of my basketball skills & continue to get stronger & more athletic. I love to play basketball & I am very grateful to my Dad who taught me how to play basketball the right way & be a team player. He is always there for me. I am looking forward to my career at New Town & I want to be one of the hardest workers on the team.”
Isiah mentions his Mom & Dad as his role models in his close knit family. He is a very good student who is very dedicated in his journey to success on & off the court. We will be covering Isiah throughout his career & this season will provide live game reports & individual player articles for the Titan players.
