Prospect Spotlight 2019: Tervondre Williams
Tervondre Williams, 5’11”, PG/CG, 2019. McKinley Tech Trainers. Washington, DC.
This spring & summer Tervondre has been working very hard on his basketball development 6-7 days a week. He had an excellent summer in the DeMatha BSN summer League. However, Tervondre took the summer off from Grassroots play to focus on his academics & he is on the brink of earning a 3.0 GPA. Last season he shined at McKinley Tech with a team leading 15 ppg, 5 assist, 3 rebounds & 2 plus steals per game as the Trainers finished the season @ 16-9. In our opinion McKinley Head Coach Ali Foster will filed a top 3 DCIAA team this coming season. Tevondre, ,2020 6’8″CF Woody Newton & PG Daniel Allen will be McKinley’s 3 go to players.
Tevondre possesses excellent shot mechanics with high elevation, excellent square up with a quick release. He can get open looks curling off screens & back-cuts pulling up on a dime. Tervondre has a very good change of direction & change of pace to create spacing & get thru the defense. He is very shifty & quick being able to score from both sides of the floor. Tervondre adds,” My range is beyond the 3 point line& I rate my shot mechanics very high. I am not a one dimensional player & in other ways. Some of my go to moves include a hesitation pull up, mid range, floaters, & attacking the rim off the dribble. I can finish thru contact & use either hand. I played PG all thru middle school & I can make all the passes.”
We have seen Tervondre dunk in live game action & he is an excellent athlete. He is very quick, fast, and with very good lateral movement. Despite being a potential D1 prospect Tervondre knows excatly what he needs to accomplish to take his game to the next level. He adds,”My ball-handling is an 8-10 & I am working on dribbling lower. Currently I can use both hands, crossover & spin, but I want to add some more dribble moves to my arsenal. I study Kyrie Irving & Allen Iverson on You Tube & Cable. I am gaining more experience with some new teammates so we can build the chemistry we need. I run pick & rolls with Woody very well, but I am trying to perfect our team scenarios.”
On the defensive end Tervondre says,” My defense is not where I want it to be and I am a 7.5 out of 10. I want to be more psychical & bring more energy on the defensive front. I know I can become a better defender & I will get there thru hard work. My on ball defense is a 8 -10 & I am quick enough to dodge screen or run thru the gaps. Tervonde is working very, very hard & performs his strength & conditioning workouts each morning for 2 hours before school. He lifts weights for his upper & lower body performs plyos & jumps rope. Tervondre incorporates sprints in to he is workout running 100 meters dashes, & periodically does mile runs which are under 6 minutes. He uses a parachute on the track & resistance bands in the gym.
After school Tervondre works out with his Trainer on basketball skills & development.Throughout the week he runs 5 on 5 pick up games & Tevondre is looking forward to the fall league & regular season which begins in early December, He adds,” I think we will have a great year & Daniel Allen, Woody Newton and myself have great chemistry & a bond.”
In such a hectic world we live in players & students need role mentors to keep themselves on course. Tervondre names his Mother, Head Coach Ali Foster, his Rec Coach Anthony & Trainer KC for helping him stay on track & providing support in his journey. As mentioned Tervondre is close to 3.o GPA & he is interested in majoring in Engineering. Several schools hare showing interest & we expect Tervondre’s recruitment to pick. In our opinion he is an under the radar gem & a winner. We will be covering McKinley Tech & their players extensively this coming season.
