Prospect Rankings Update: 2018 Top Slashers (Tier 3)
AAU 2017 wrapped over a month ago. The long overdue 2018 rankings are now updated. Slashers are featured in more detail in three 10-person tiers. Tier one, tier two, and this following group of talented slashers extend below the top 100 barrier.
Many of the following players have limitations to their game that keep them from D1 prospects. Still all of them have a chance to play beyond high school with significant senior seasons.
#76 Tylar Haynes
Haynes is a bouncy wing. He will have a chance to earn D3/NAIA/JuCo looks because he is athletic and tall at 6-foot-5. It will be interesting to see if he gets any reps outside the paint though. He tends to get plopped down on the low blocks at the high school level and with his AAU outfit M33M.
#78 Brandon Thomas
To prove he is a college wing Thomas, like Haynes, needs to become more laterally mobile. He is a good rebounder (5.8 rpg) and can defend multiple positions. Brandon Thomas was scouted in more detail by PHT in late July.
#82 Lavric Mangala
A hidden gem, Lavric Mangala projects as a guard. He might not get any college looks, but deserves a chance with his quick feet and decent handle. Mangala moves very well and can change directions fluidly.
#83 Da’Vae Hughley
Recently Hughley talked about his AAU season with PHT.
#92 Cullen Hughes
Cullen Hughes is the younger brother of Clayton Hughes (Indiana State). He doesn’t have the same height and plays more of a two-guard than Clayton.
#95 Thomas Gilmore
Thomas Gilmore moved to Tennessee Prep from the Pittsburgh area. His role hasn’t been clearly defined, but the Kennedy Catholic-transfer understand how to play within a winning system and defer to a superstar.
#97 Spencer Chandler
Anderson County banks on Chander’s scoring prowess. Already a clutch performer he will be integral as the Mavericks enter an exciting 2017-2018 season.
#101 Brandon Craig
Of this bunch of 10, Craig is the second one in the Jackson, Tennessee area. He suits up for University School in Jackson.
#106 William Nelson
William Nelson is a central Tennessee guy that played with Team ARG and Brandon Thomas (above) this season. Trenton Gibson (Blackman-Team Thad) was another teammate in past AAU seasons.
#108 William Lee
PHT spotted William Lee in the spring, playing invested defense for the Memphis Bulls.
