Program MVP: Xavier Pinson
Who was the MVP of each grassroots team program this past spring and summer? This might not necessarily be the best player although in many cases it is. We are looking at the player from Illinois that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
A team that was consistent and steadily produced wins throughout the spring and summer was the Mac Irvin Fire’s NY2LA team. They might not get all the attention that the EYBL team gets, but this group had a nice collection of talented shooters, athletes, and playmakers that ranged from multiple post grad players to several prospects that will make major impacts for their high school teams next year. There is no doubt the MVP of this group was Simeon 2018 point guard Xavier Pinson. He was coming off a breakout season with St. Patrick’s last year and that continued into the spring and summer. Pinson is a dynamic and rangy lead guard that is slippery getting through traffic. Defenses had a tough time containing him on a regular basis. Pinson consistently got in the lane all spring and summer where he finishes with layups, floaters, or kicked it out to his perimeter shooter for clean looks. His own jump shot became more of a weapon which opened up other aspects of his game. He showed an improved floor game and helped lead his team to the NY2LA Association Championship game in mid-July.
Congratulations to Simeon 2018 point guard Xavier Pinson on winning the PrepHoopsIllinois Program MVP for the Mac Irvin Fire NY2LA.
