Program MVP: Talen Horton-Tucker
Who was the MVP of each grassroots team program this past spring and summer? This might not necessarily be the best player although in many cases it is. We are looking at the player from Illinois that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
It is not very often that you give a program MVP award to a player that only played 1/3 of the season with a team, but after the performance that Simeon 2018 small forward Talen Horton-Tucker put on during July with his new Team Rose squad there was no question he made the biggest impact. THT is a 6’4” small forward that is a crafty wing knowing how to get where he wants on the floor to get stuff done. He handles the ball exceptionally well for a wing and has the body control to finish at the cup. What we like most about his game is his ability to be a stat sheet stuffer and contribute in a variety of areas. Scores, dishes, rebounds, etc.
The high-major prospect made an instant impact on his new team in July putting up consistent production for them at the Adidas Finals during the first week of the live period. There were rave reviews coming out of the south about his play. That continued the next week in St. Louis where THT might have had his signature performance. He went off for 30+ points against a stacked Brad Beal Elite squad that made it all the way to the final four in the EYBL. THT put on what our scout Steve Parham described as the best performance of the spring/summer scoring in a variety of ways and picking apart the defense.
Congratulations to Simeon 2018 small forward Talen Horton-Tucker on winning the Program MVP for Team Rose.
