Predicting the DMV’s Top Rebounders (Part 2)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout the DC Metro Area. In this edition we run down six front court players who could find themselves among the most productive rebounders in the DMV region.
DEVON FLOWERS | POTOMAC SCHOOL ’18
Devon Flowers has been one of the biggest local stock risers of the summer, and looks prepared for a highly productive senior campaign. The 6’9 forward, who displays excellent defensive versatility, is a very good rim protector, and a strong rebounder with soft hands. Flowers should be able to record his fair share of double doubles while sprinkling in several blocks
IKE NWEKE | GEORGETOWN PREP ’18
When considering the top local offensive rebounders, Ike Nweke is one of the first names that comes to mind. The 6’7 forward is a flat out work horse inside, and he uses his deceptive length to consistently secure 50/50 balls in traffic. Little Hoyas Head Coach Ryan Eskow will likely rely heavily on Nweke to help them win the battle of the boards on a nightly basis.
TYRESE SAMUEL | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ’18
6’9 power forward Tyrese Samuel is one of the most forceful paint presences in the DMV. The skilled and athletic rising senior, who was a had highs of 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks on the EYBL with UPLAY Canada, will be asked to solidify the interior for the Crusaders defense this season. Expect Samuel to be considered among the most prolific shot rebounders and blockers locally.
CHARLES THOMPSON | ST. STEPHENS & ST. AGNES ’19
Charles Thompson had some nice moments in his first season as the starting big for St. Stephens & St. Agnes last year, and he followed it up with a very strong summer for nationally-ranked 16U Team Takeover Black. The rising junior might not have elite size, but he knows how to defend, box out, and plays much bigger than he really is. Thompson could find himself not just among the leading rebounders in the IAC, but in the entire DMV.
TERRANCE WILLIAMS | GONZAGA ’20
Terrance Williams was ridiculously productive in his freshman year at Gonzaga. It seemed like the 6’7 forward would just come in and grab every rebound in or out of his area. Williams led the Purple Eagles in boards last season, and should do so once again as his role continues to grow.
RICHARD NJOKU | ST. JOHN’S ’18
One of the most feared rim protectors in the DMV, Richard Njoku is the heart and soul of a solid St. John’s defense. The 6’6 big man is very physical, and is always putting a body on someone. Njoku’s ability to help the Cadets control the glass could be a vital part of their success this season.
