Palmetto State : Region 4-A Players to Watch
Prep Hoops SC takes a look at one of the smallest regions in the Palmetto State. Corey Fields and Donnell Bowens will battle it out for player of the year in this region this coming season. Here is a look at some of the talent.
Corey Fields (2018) – Baptist Hill HS (Hollywood) (pictured on front)
Fields is the senior spokesman for this region. Fields a 3 sport athlete is off to a quick start on the football field with 11 touchdown passes after just 2 games. Last season Fields threw for 3,315 yards and 37 Touchdowns for the Bobcats.
Fields averaged 16.1 ppg and 9.1 rebounds for the 15-7 Bobcats. Fields a guard played AAU this summer with the Premier Jammers. Fields enters his 4th year on the varsity basketball team with 872 career points.
Fields was named All-Region Player of the Year last season.
Fields has received strong interest from Newberry (SC) (NCAA D2) for both football and basketball.
Richard Bailey (2018) – Baptist Hill HS (Hollywood)
Bailey 5’8 guard averaged 11.1 ppg last season for the Bobcats. Bailey likes to play off the ball and connected on 35% (36-104) from downtown last season.
Gregory Scott (2018) – Lowcountry Leadership (Hollywood)
Scott 6’4 played AAU with the Port City Stars 16U this past summer. Scott a mover-screener averaged 8 ppg and 7.2 rebounds last season. Scott started off at Charleston Collegiate before arriving at Lowcountry Leadership.
Donnell Bowens (2019) – Lowcountry Leadership (Hollywood)
Bowens led the way last season for the new program. Bowens a guard averaged 16.3 ppg, 3.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals last season. Bowens has the ability to knock-down the mid-range jumper and create his own shot. Bowens played AAU with the Port City Stars 16U with Scott.
Tre Ahlstrom (2018) – Palmetto Scholars Academy (North Charleston)
Prep Hoops first saw Ahlstrom this summer with the Palmetto Elite AAU team. Ahlstrom a shooting guard had great shooting range on his shot.
Emmanuel Johnson, Ramello Grant and Jalen Bailey all have left Military Magnet. Johnson (2020) has surfaced at Northwood Academy while Grant (2019) and Bailey (2019) attend Stall HS. Grant and Bailey both played with Charleston Strong this summer.
