Palmetto State – 4 Players to Monitor
The Palmetto State basketball talent is very good in the years to come. Here are 4 kids that could have breakout years that not many people know much about at all.
Shaquille Johnson (2018) – Green Sea Floyds HS (Green Sea) (pictured on front)
Johnson is new to the area this season as he’s making quite a impression on the football field for the Trojans. Johnson recently scored 5 touchdowns versus Academic Magnet. Johnson transferred in from nearby West Columbus HS. Prep Hoops first saw Johnson on the AAU Circuit playing with the Ascend Ballers.
Johnson is a physically gifted player and extremely athletic. Johnson 6’3 likes to stalk the baseline when given the chance, should give the Trojans some solid production on the hardwood this season. Johnson plays wide out for the Trojans.
Green Sea is close to the North Carolina border with a school enrollment of 328 students.
Marlow Gilmore (2019) – Hunter-Kinard-Tyler HS (Neeses)
Gilmore was first seen by Bret Swanson – Swanny’s Roundball Review at his tiny high school gym in Neeses, SC. Gilmore is a explosive athlete around the rim and excels in the open court. Gilmore a left-handed forward is the leader of the Trojans on the hardwood. Gilmore is quick off his feet and can really turn a game around on the defensive end of the floor.
Gilmore 6’5 played this summer with the Columbia Hoyas on the AAU Circuit. Gilmore is ranked #21 in the Prep Hoops 2019 Class here in the Palmetto State.
Robert Fuller (2020) – Lake View HS (Lake View)
Fuller is a unknown kid who plays at a school that really doesn’t have any kinds of basketball history. Lake View HS is a big-time football and baseball school. Fuller 6’6 finishes around the cup and can step-out a bit on the floor. Fuller played with a local mom and pop AAU team this summer on a very limited basis the Lake View Intimidators.
Fuller is ranked #40 in the Prep Hoops 2020 Class.
Carrele Cooper (2020) – Andrews HS
Cooper is going to have a big season for the Yellow Jackets. Andrews Head Coach Kevin Branham has informed Prep Hoops that he will try to run a similar offense to Grinnell College. Cooper played with a local AAU team in the South Carolina Coastal Elite. Cooper keeps the ball on a string and can really knock down shots when given the opportunity. Cooper should come in right away this season for the Yellow Jackets and contribute to the offense.
Cooper is ranked #25 in the Prep Hoops 2020 Class here in the Palmetto State.
The offense is referred to the Grinnell System incorporates a continual full-court press, fast paced offense an emphasis on offensive rebounding, a barrage of three-point shots and subbing players every 35-45 seconds.
All 4 of these players play at smaller schools here in the Palmetto State. Andrews HS is the biggest at 551 kids. Hunter-Kinard-Tyler HS 250 kids and Lake View has 459 students.
