Open Gym Notebook: Plainfield
The month of September brings with it the beginning of open gym season. Over the next month-plus, we will be out on the road checking in on different high school programs from around the state. Here are our notes from our trip to Plainfield.
Last Season: This past season was the best year under head coach Andy Weaver and the best season period since 2007-08. They found a good rhythm early in the season and were able to get to a 14-10 record.
Biggest Changes: The biggest chance on the roster from last season, looks like the departure of a large group of seniors. Jarrett Hufferd, Gavin Ritter, Tyler, West, and Conner Brens are all gone now and that is half of their offense from the team. They have also added former Avon (IN) head coach Jason Young as an assistant coach. They have a little more experience up and down the coaching staff now.
Player To Watch: Gavin Bizeau (Sr.) – Gavin just finished off a big summer for him and is now committed to Duquesne. At 6’10, he showed during the open gym, his ability to stretch the floor and a much more fluid and strong movement in his body. He’s got that ability to really take over games with most matchups. He’s got a chance to breakout and have a big season with where his body is at.
New Face On Roster: Aidan Booher (Fr.) – There are going to be a number of new faces on this team but Booher is the best incoming freshman and is a legit new face. He’s got some ability in his game already and can give Plainfield another legit guard on the ball. With Plainfield just needing guys they can trust on the floor, Booher could be a surprise name to watch at times this season.
Expectations: This season could be an interesting one. Essentially, Plainfield has three guys that can be impact guys right away with Gavin Bizeau, his younger brother Brock Bizeau, and senior guard Trey Davis. You have a few other guys that could step up like Owen Litzelman and Sam Siegfried but it is if they can find any depth beyond those guys. On paper, last years roster was deeper but Gavin is better and so is Trey Davis. They should be able to help navigate this group through the rough patches and could easily see another above .500 record with a slight chance to be better than last year’s mark of 14 wins.
