Must-See Baltimore Freshmen in 2017-18
The hardest class to predict in terms of success is always the incoming freshmen for the obvious fact that they’ve never played in a varsity high school game before. Transitioning from middle school to varsity level brings a ton of adjustment. Often times the speed and physicality of the game is something they’ve never experienced on a daily basis.
Fortunately for this particular group, they have a tremendous skill-set that will make the transition much smoother. Let’s take a look at the must-see freshmen in the Baltimore area for the upcoming high school season.
Ryan Conway | Dulaney | 2021
Conway is one of the more anticipated guards in the class of 2021 nationally. The 6’1 guard is regarded as the top point guard in the state because of his ability to score at an alarming rate. Conway can break down his match up with his great ball handling skills. He’ll be expected to play a huge role for a Lions teams that is stacked with young talent.

Ike Cornish | Dulaney | 2021
It’s not everyday that you see two of the area’s top incoming freshmen on the same team, but for head coach Matt Lochte, that’s exactly what he has. Fortunately for him, Cornish and Conway has different styles of play that mesh well. While Conway is more of a scorer, Cornish can adapt and be more of a floor general and play maker, while having the ability to score when called upon. The 6’5 guard is a solid rebounder and an effective on-ball defender due to his length.
Darrius Tilghman | Calvert Hall | 2021
Tilghman is going to be a fun prospect to watch develop over the next four years. Tilghman is a 6’3 lefty with a solid feel for the game. He’s especially good at getting passed his defender and finding an open teammate. With a quick first step and smooth scoring ability around the rim, he should be an immediate impact player for the Cardinals this season.
Malik Missouri | Gilman | 2021
Missouri has a chance to be a special talent as he continues to develop. His shot-making ability is something that will translate immediately during his freshman campaign. At 6’3, he has size that will allow him to hold his own although he isn’t used to the physicality that the varsity level presents. He has the athleticism to hold his own and could be a nice option as a 3-and-D role.
Ahmad Harrison | Gerstell | 2021
Harrison is a player that won’t shy away from any competition in front of him. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and confidence that should allow him to have a solid freshman season. The 6-foot Team Thrill product will play the majority of minutes at the point guard position and rightfully so. He’s an effective operator in the pick-and-roll as well as isolation situations. He can break down his defender and is good at anticipating help side defensive rotations. Gerstell has a solid roster that should bode well in the MIAA B Conference this season.
