Maryland Top 250 Expo: Under the Radar College Prospects
The Top 250 Expo this past Saturday was a great platform that featured under the radar talent in the state of Maryland. You may not see these player’s names listed amongst the top in the country or state, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a solid contributor to a college program. With their size and skill set, many of these players would be solid considerations for the Division II or Division III level.
KeSean Hobbs | DuVal | 2018
Hobbs is a physical, skilled guard that played well on both ends throughout the expo. At 6’1 and a solid build, Hobbs was a pest defensively picking up the his man, who was usually the primary ball handler, at passed half court. Offensively Hobbs utilizes his size and strength, which helps him finish through contact. The DuVal product plays with a ton of effort and passion each possession.
Dereck Oor | Harford Christian School | 2018
Oor is known for his ability to put up a crooked number in the scoring column as he did last season for Harford Christian. While the six-foot guard wasn’t on fire during the expo, he still displayed his knack for scoring off the dribble and playing off of other’s penetration. There are times where he settles for jumpshots rather than attacking the basket, but when Oor did put the ball on the deck, good things happened as he was able to finish lay ups or draw fouls.
Mate Zsebe | The Salisbury School | 2018
Zsebe was a bit of an unknown coming into the expo, but once the games tipped off he didn’t take long to impress. The 6’4 wing played with endless energy and was an effective slasher all afternoon. Zsebe was especially good at filling lanes in transition and finishing even with a defender in his face. Zsebe should be a player Division III coaches start tracking soon.
Dwight Felton | Mt. Carmel | 2018
We’ve covered Felton very thoroughly throughout the summer, but it was impossible not to include him on this list. The 6’1 floor general displayed great court vision and instincts all afternoon as he led his team to a couple of wins. Felton is a natural leader that communicates well on both ends. Felton would be a steal at the Division III level.
Gates Cook | Dundalk | 2018
Cook is another prospect that we’ve talked about a lot. He was included on Adam Ayalew’s standouts article and was amongst the top shooters who attended the expo. All afternoon Cook was displaying his sniping ability both off the catch and off the dribble. The 6’4 guard has good size to help him contest shots defensively and be an above average rebounder when crashing the boards. Like Felton, Cook would be a great addition for a Division III program.
Will Miller | Mt. Carmel | 2018
Miller was another prospect included on multiple articles already posted from the expo. Miller is known for being one of the top shooters in Baltimore already, but what was most impressive about his performance Saturday was his ability to facilitate. Being that he is only six-foot, Miller told me this summer that becoming more of a point guard was a focus of his in his workouts. It showed and caught the eye of a few coaches. Felton and Miller should be prospects Division II and III programs keep on their radar this season.
