League Predictions – Mount Lake Terrace
The Mount Lake Terrace Hawks are on a mission this year. With some returning fire power they will be a force to be reckoned with. Look Out! Coach Nalin Sood is a retro guy preached the basic fundamentals of the game. His knowledge of the game is a huge benefit for his returners but also the new kids coming in. He is a master when it comes to the transition game and has a great understanding on how to articulate dominance on the defensive end.
The Hawks were very impressive last year. Coming off a 9-3 record in the 2A Wesco division and overall record of 14-11 and making it down state. They definitely have something to build on. This season will be a good opportunity to gain some confidence and chemistry as a team. The Hawks had some impressive wins this past season against Lynnwood, cedar crest oak harbor, meadow dale and Snohomish. They struggled against some of the Tacoma and Seattle schools like Wilson, West Seattle and Clover Park.
With an already impressive returning roster, Let us look at some of the firepower the Hawks are packing this season.
Khyree Armstead is a 6-3 guard/forward that attends Mountlake Terrace High School in the WESCO 2A/3A Conference.
Armstead is currently a junior and is graduating in 2018. He is mainly a slasher that likes to play off the ball. He is constantly running off screens offensively, looking for lanes to slash to the basket. Armstead also has displayed a midrange game, where he can put down the ball and shoot off the dribble. He is currently averaging 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game.
“I’m definitely describe myself as a slasher type of player, but my shot is improving every day,” Armstead said.
Defensively, Armstead’s wingspan and constant effort causes opposing offenses much trouble. His feet are always moving and his arms almost always up ready for the steal or a block.
Mountlake Terrace 6-foot-5 stretch-forward Brendan Hayes has been spending his career manning the paint, but may be better served as a wing at the next level.
At 6’5 he has the size to be a formidable force in the post, but at the next level, he’d be an undersized big. It’s a good thing he already possesses the necessary skills to move out to the perimeter.
