Kani Acree to Ball State
Carbondale 2018 small forward Kani Acree is one of the top wing prospects in the state of Illinois. He had a quality junior campaign and then followed it up by racking up D1 offers on the circuit with Team RWA. Acree tells PrepHoopsIllinois he has made his college choice committing to Ball State.
“I chose Ball State because they were on me day one and I talked to them every day.”
What stands out about their coaching staff?
“I like that it wasn’t just one coach recruiting me and stayed in contact with me. I love how when I went on my visit they treated me like I was in the family already and people on campus showed me a lot of love.”
He broke down how his game fits into their system.
“I will be in the backcourt with Ish Al-Amin. I’ll be playing the two guard and I fit into their system because they run a lot of on ball screens.”
The 2018 wing is coming off a strong junior campaign at Carbondale and followed that up in the summer with Team RWA on the circuit. The strength of his game has become his mid-range. Used to not be the greatest shooter, but with a lot of work in the gym he is starting to be very consistent with his shot pulling up from 15-18 feet. Acree is a quality transition player that also gets to the charity stripe a fair amount with his strength. Solid wing passer. Upside as a perimeter defender with his physical tools.
Acree is the #28 overall prospect in the new PrepHoopsIllinois 2018 rankings and #6 small forward.
