Drew Peterson Sets Officials & Updates Recruitment
Libertyville 2018 small forward Drew Peterson is one of the top 10 prospects in the state of Illinois. There hasn’t been a ton of news with his recruitment in recent weeks as many of his D1 peers are taking officials and making commitments. PrepHoopsIllinois caught up with the #6 prospect in the 2018 class who gave us an update on where things stand.
Peterson is still open to schools and is not cutting his list. He does have a pair of official visits scheduled. He will take a trip to William & Mary this weekend and will also head out to Yale on October 13. Rice is another school that is still heavily in the mix. The Libertyville standout spoke about each of the three programs.
William & Mary
“I’ve definitely developed a great relationship with the staff and they want me to have a big role on their team.”
Yale
“Obviously an Ivy League school is really attractive and I like the coaches a lot. They’ve also been really successful in the Ivy League which is great.”
Rice
“I also have a great relationship with the coaches and they tell me a lot about how I could be a big part of their offense. I’ve heard the campus is amazing.”
He told us what he will be looking for on his official visits.
“A place that can see me as a big part of their offense and that is the right fit overall.”
Peterson doesn’t have a timeline for when he would like to make a decision at this stage.
This wing brings a lot of projectability and upside to the table. He has size at 6’7” which allows him to see over the defense. He is a long and wiry wing that is a quality athlete being able to handle the ball. Finishes in transition. His shot has a chance to be a plus weapon at the next level. He gets elevation off the floor and has pure mechanics. Can be streaky at times with it, but for the most part when we personally evaluated him at multiple events in both the spring and summer he shot it well.
He ran with the Illinois Wolves on the UAA circuit. Peterson is the #6 overall prospect and #3 small forward in the latest PrepHoopsIllinois 2018 rankings.
