Dawson Abbott Recruiting Update (2018)
Outside shooting has never been valued higher by coaches and scouts. Senior guard Dawson Abbott (Pickett County) is a phenomenal shooter.
“I played with Western Kentucky Elite out of Bowling Green, Kentucky,” said Abbott. “This year I played with Dab City Elite. It was kids from Gallatin and Smith County. It was good.”
Abbott’s numbers speak for themselves. He hit 138 three-pointers at a remarkable 47% clip. A true marksmen, Abbott buried 89.5% of his free throws.
“The Daily Newspaper of the Upper Cumberland”, Herald-Citizen named Dawson Abbott All Herald-Citizen Second Team.
The regional paper credited Abbott with “averaging 21 points per game and helping his Bobcats to a 20-13 overall record, a District 7-A championship appearance, and a Region 4-A championship appearance.”
Recruitment
The 5-foot-10 guard Dawson Abbott camped with Carson-Newman late August.
“It was good,” Dawson Abbott. “There were some kids there that were really good. There were kids from Crossville that was there.”
Abbott liked the school and campus too.
“It was nice.”
Carson-Newman Head Coach Chuck Benson hails from Newport, Tennessee. He is quickly becoming a Carson-Newman stalwart. In fact, Coach Benson graduated from CN in 1991 and served as Associate Head Coach for for years prior to accepting the corner office. This upcoming season represents Coach Benson’s eighth year at the helm.
Dawson has interest from Bryan College, Lindenwood-Belleville, and Carson-Newman.
At this moment the 2018 guard does not have plans on a decision date or official visits. His goal is to make it to the Tennessee state tournament in his senior campaign.
“And I think Lindenwood-Belleville (NAIA) offered me.”
With his shooting confidence and on-court success to date, look for Dawson Abbott to attract more offers in the coming year.
