Class AA….A Taste
The Class AA Sleepers. Who are they? Who leads them? Northstar Hoops breaks it down.
Section 1. Plainview/Elgin-Millville. The black and gold hasn’t quite been the same in recent years but they bring back three of their four guys from a solid team last year. Barron Holtz is a name to know from them.
Section 2. Patrick Bigaouette at Belle Plaine should lead their program to a solid year. Jordan, Sibley East, and NRHEG all have returning talent that will keep them near the top, and Patrick could do the same for them.
Section 3. Pipestone Area has our attention and a key reason for that is because Tyl Woelber has the attention of many because of his athletic ability. They will be a top five team in the section but maybe they make a run? The section is open.
Section 4. A forgotten name in the 2018 class is Jayton Metcalf who has been down and out because of an injury or sickness. Metcalf can play though and with second place in this section being open Metcalf could lead them to that second place trophy.
Section 5. The sleeper is Holy Family. We all expect Brooklyn Center to make a run but it was the Fire that beat them last year in the sections. Nathan Hendler can lead a team with skill and toughness plus Lincoln Cizek is also back plus others.
Section 6. Shots rain from every direction and are made throughout Pine City games. Cathedral, Annandale, and Melrose all have the tradition and experience but Pine City is going to knock a load of shots in against somebody and beat them. Clay Logan leads the way.
Section 7. In Vegas we watched Carson Becicka and Tyler Baribeau play so well for the Minnesota Heat. Then we found out that the Mesabi East program they play for has even more talent back. Don’t forget about East who is likely a year away from the big run, but will tough this year too.
Section 8. Wadena-Deer Creek. Who? Learn who quick. They were a solid .500 last year that has their entire rotation back led by Noah Ross.
