Prospect Spotlight: Sean McCurdy (2019)
Sean McCurdy, 6’4 small forward, class of 2019 , Bethel High School. I have really liked Sean for a while now and he is even more impressive now. He’s really agile and strong for a forward and he is becoming much more versatile. His jumper looked good and he is becoming a guy who could play up to four spots on the floor if needed. His post moves are still coming along and he looked good down there last year.
Sean isn’t your prototypical forward but is much more athletic than he looks and really can get to the basket. Probably projects more of a perimeter player but he can throw around weight down low and rebound. One thing I noticed most about him was he is very fast, has a quick first step which will help him keep defenders off guard.
I got a chance to talk with the young prospect and pick his brain on his game and what motivates him to stay in the gym and trust the process…
Please tell me about your game? What do you think would stand out to a coach and also what parts do you still need to work on?
“I am a knock down shooter, you can count on me to make big shots and I think that’s why I stand out. I definitely need to work on my handle. It’s not bad or anything but it’s not where I want it to be.”
What AAU team are you playing for and how did the spring and summer go for you?
“I play for Extreme Ballers currently and my whole team is in the same boat. We all can hoop we’re just waiting for someone to notice. We start fall league this weekend and we won it last year.”
What’s recruitment looking like for you now?
“Currently my recruitment is non existent. This is very humbling to me because there are many people in my high school league that I know I’m better than that are getting recruited by big schools. But I know if I keep working as hard as I am the schools will start to know my name.”
