Xavier Castaneda Locks In Trio of Visits
PrepHoopsIllinois caught up with Whitney Young 2018 point guard Xavier Castaneda to get the latest on his recruitment including a trio of official visits he has set up.
Castaneda is coming off a strong July where he performed particularly well at the Victor Oladipo camp during the second live period. He opened up quite a few coaches eyes with his play at the camp and that has ramped up his recruitment. Castaneda currently ranks as the #6 overall prospect in 2018 and #2 point guard.
He tells PrepHoopsIllinois that he has three official visits set up at this point to South Florida (September 2-3), Wichita State (September 6-8), and Kent State (September 8-10). The dynamic rising senior broke down what he likes about each school heading into the visits.
South Florida
“The South Florida coaching staff has been heavily recruiting me. Their playing style suits my game.”
Wichita State
“Wichita State with Coach Marshall and his staff has been recruiting me heavily as well. Their play style as seen with Fred Van Vleet has shown success throughout the years.”
Kent State
“When I visited Kent State I enjoyed coach Sendy, the coaching staff, and the players. Also with them making the tournament last year it’s definitely huge.”
He told us what he will be looking for on these visits.
“On these visits I will be looking for the school that suits my game and also my demand for academics.”
Castaneda made it clear that he is still open to visiting other schools and that he has not cut his list. He ran with Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL circuit.
