Recruiting Report: Yves Nkomba (2020)
La Salette Academy 6’10” center Yves Nkomba out of central Illinois is one of the better kept secrets in the 2020 class. Not a lot of people know about this big man yet, but he has been on our radar since the spring after we first saw him with the KC Pacers. Great size and physical tools. Still raw and learning the game, but he plays hard. Rebounds well and has a lot of mobility for his size. Most of his offensive production is getting on the glass for put backs. Like the developmental upside here a lot! Definitely one that D1 programs in the Midwest need to track. Saw progress from the spring to summer.
He also has seen growth in his game during his short time in the United States.
“It has been a big improvement. I have come a long way. I had to sacrifice a lot to be here. I am really grateful to be here.”
Nkomba mentioned a few specific areas of improvement.
“Aggressiveness, speed, physical strength, and doing workouts with the Pacers have helped me become stronger and quicker in the paint. Because of that I have been getting more recognized.”
How would he describe where his game is at right now?
“I am a great defender. My offensive game is not there yet, but in time it will come. I would say I have a lot of potential.”
Several programs have already expressed interest in the 2020 post.
“Iowa State, Western Illinois, and South Dakota.”
His high school coach Alex Anderson also mentioned interest from Stanford and Iowa.
