Recruiting Report: Tyler Kemp (2019)
Six-foot-4 2019 guard Tyler Kemp is a skilled guard with size that helped WOTN Swedburg to a top five spot this 16u season.
“This was one of the best years of AAU personally for me,” Kemp said. “Not only did we have one of the best seasons WOTN has ever had but we got to play some great competition.
“My biggest takeaway this year was that all the teams play fast. The game was usually decided by who could make the biggest run on the fast break.”
Kemp has excellent handles and a nice touch going at the rim and now he wants to be more consistent playmaking from distance.
“I am hoping to improve my outside shot,” Kemp said. “I feel like I can get to the rim easily and finish with confidence. So I would like to improve on my pull-up midrange jump shot and step back threes.”
New Prague lost their top four scorers and their head coach so things are going to be different. The program does have some talent, it will just need some time to grow.
“This is year will for sure be a struggle,” Kemp said. “We lost all five of our starting five. We only have a couple kids that have varsity experience. But if we can execute the things we are very good at we should do just fine.
“We should be in the race for the conference title. Our goal is to be in the top three of the conference. As a player I am going to go in early before school with one of my teammates every morning to improve on our game. As a team we will be having some practices in the fall to prepare for the season.”
Tyler Kemp has been in contact with Southwest Minnesota State and more schools will likely contact him soon. Many of the Trojans that came before him have moved on to the next level and Kemp has learned from many of them.
“People who influenced my game were a lot of New Prague hoopers. Nick Johnson at a young age and Lucas Walford.”
