Recruiting Report: Ryan Wade (2019)
After picking up his first Division I offer during his 15U summer and spending his 16U summer on the Under Armour Circuit with 1 Nation Elite, Ryan Wade is no longer a young-gunner but an established Michigan prospect.
The 6-foot-1 Ann Arbor Skyline guard had another good summer which concluded last month, and now has four D1 offers to his name.
His first offer came two summer ago from, Toledo. Detroit, Kent State and Central Michigan all followed suit this summer.
Other schools are showing interest.
“Eastern Michigan has been texting me a lot. Holy Cross has been texting me and trying to get me on campus. Elon has said something to me, Cleveland State, and a little bit of Oakland too. So those are the schools that have shown some interest,” said Wade.
With still two high school seasons and a 17U offseason left for his recruitment to take-off, Wade says that right now his main priority is to simply improve.
“Going into my junior year and my last year of AAU, I’m hoping to get some higher looks and get invited to some more camps. I really just want to develop my game, get stronger, work on my athleticism and consistency with my jump-shot,” said Wade.
Already with a vast skill-set, Wade says his offensive versatility is what blossomed this past spring and summer.
“I think definitely the biggest strength of my game is my shooting ability, I’ve always been known as a shooter. But this summer I really worked on my inside game and scoring at the rim and pull-up jumpers,” he said.
“I’ve also been taking a lot of pride in my defense and being a guy who has a high IQ. My IQ has been getting a lot better; like knowing when to take shots and get open shots.”
During his spring and summer with 1Nation 16U on the Under Armour Circuit, Wade and his guys took some lumps early, before finishing with some success.
“We started out kind of bumpy and couldn’t really get it together. As the season went on, we started clicking and just got used to playing with each other, so we finished pretty strong,” said Wade.
“It was a great experience, the competition was a lot higher being on the Circuit. The game was a lot different, it was great exposure.”
Now, with his junior season on the horizon, Wade days his role will change dramatically compared to last season.
“We’re really looking forward to this year,” he said. “Personally, I want to improve my shooting percentage, and take a new role on the team; a lot of people are going to be looking up to me as a leader.”
