Prospect Report: Omari Maulana 2021
The last time we checked in with Omari he was new to the high school game and speed. Since then he has played this summer at the 15u level and has got a good understanding and feel for the speed and physicality of that level.
This summer he has also made a name for himself. With an increasing skill set and elite athleticism, Omari will be the man at LCA. This summer he was able to get some elite camps under his belt and get in front of quite a few coaches.
I was able to catch up with Omari and ask how his summer has been going and what he was able to get accomplished not just during tournament season but also while attending some of these elite camps such as, University of Idaho, Seattle U, Washington State University and was invited to the Eastern Washington but couldn’t attend due to the Indi Hoops Invitational.
Here is what the young man had to say.
How was your summer and what tournaments did you guys compete in?
“During the summer I’ve traveled to Las Vegas to play in the Bigfoot Classic tournament and we matched up very well, winning our bracket. I also traveled to San Diego in August to participate in the Indi-Hoops World Championships. “
“We faced some of the best 2021 talent in the nation. As a team we came out very strong with high intensity and high IQ as well. We did not end up winning this tournament but accomplished finishing the season being ranked 17th in the nation.”
Were you able to get some elite camps and how was your experience?
“I went to the University of Idaho, Seattle U, and the Washington State University camps this summer. I was also invited to the Eastern Washington 11th and 12th grades camp, but could not attend due to the Indi-Hoops World Championship.”
“I believe my name is definitely on the radar of all of these schools. Seattle I feel I got a greater chance for them to put my eyes on me because of the fact there was a smaller group of kids and it was easier for coaches to watch me even more. These were all great camps and hope to see them follow me in the future.”
Do you have any offers or interest yet?
“I have not received any scholarships or interest letters yet but I anticipate receiving both this upcoming summer (2018), including interest out of state California/Oregon.”
